Round Pole Post & Beam Structure
In preparing for our upcoming straw bale workshop, we are building a post and beam house with round pole framing. Here are a few pictures of how it’s coming along. We are going to put earthbag around the outside of the concrete footers and stack the straw bales on top of that. We may need to call in reinforcements to get it ready in time for the workshop.
And here it is a few days later with the rafters and bender-board roof decking…
Earthbag filled with limestone gravel for the foundation.

I’M GETTING READY TO BUILD MY OWN HOME OF STRAW BALE’S. I LIKE THE POST USE AS I HAVE A LOT OF THIS ALREADY ON MY LAND. ALSO IT HAS THE HAND MADE FEEL I WANT IN MY HOME. ARE YOU USING RADIANT HEAT OT WOOD? AND WHAT WILL YOU FINISH THE WALLS WITH?

Very good! We like the hand made look of a house using natural timbers as well. Our home does have radiant floor heating in a concrete slab. We like how it feels to have a warm floor in the winter. We heat the water with a Wood Master furnace but if we didn’t have lots of wood to burn we would be concerned about its overall efficiency. We finish our wall with a lime and clay based plaster for good protection and breathe ability.
